What Makes a Dope Sneaker

What makes a dope sneaker? That is a question that I am constantly asking myself. Is it the fact that they are cosigned (worn) by athletes, like Lebron, Kobe or Jordan? Or is it the fact that most dope sneakers are cosigned by the likes of musicians, such as Pharrell Williams or Kanye West?

By the way, Kanye just unveiled his latest sneaker collaboration with Adidas and it’s a quickstrike — dropping this weekend!!! For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, let me explain.

A “dope” sneaker is a shoe that turns heads everywhere. Simply stated, it’s a work of art from the silhouette, to the color, to the exclusiveness. But this isn’t the only reason because the Hip Hop and skateboard cultures have had a heavy influence on the sneaker community, too.

Last year’s Nike SB Diamond Supply Tiffany dunk skateboard shoe crashed skateboard sneaker sites and had sneakerheads and “hypebeasts” camping out everywhere days before they dropped.

Everyone has an opinion on what makes a dope sneaker. One sneakerhead on campus told me that the color, style and the way you “freak” your laces to make them stand out is what makes a dope sneaker.

What makes a dope sneaker in my opinion is the versatility of the shoe. When I say versatility, I mean I like sneakers that can be worn with joggers or simply with jeans.

When it comes to colors, I’m more of a seasonal kind of sneakerhead. I like my reds, whites and any other bright colors in the spring and summer and my black, blues and dark colors in the fall and winter.

As far as laces go, anyone who knows me knows that the Jordan 3 is one of my all time favorite Jordan silhouettes. I leave the laces so that they dangle a bit from the top eyelet.

Right now I’m not seeing too many sneakers on campus. If anything, I see that most sneakerheads have brought out their Timbs.

There’s a lot of heat dropping in the sneaker world in the next couple of days, weeks and months. I can see the hype building around various sneakers slated to release as I write, and all you sneakerheads on campus know what I’m talking about.

I’m looking forward to checking out the spring sneaker trends on campus.

Till next time, peace and good vibes.
