Apparently fall is coming early this year. Starbucks has already started selling their pumpkin spice lattes (PSL). And although the weather has still been warm, and we’re all enjoying the last of the summer sun, I’m sure you can’t deny that all this talk of fall and pumpkin spice lattes has you looking forward to jean and hoodie weather.
It’s definitely not too early to start picking up items for fall, or at least begin to think about clothing items and accessories that you plan on picking up. Luckily you ladies and gentlemen have me to help you with your fall essentials.
Fall is a time for cool, fun outings during the day and night. Even if you plan on spending the season doing “Netflix and Chill,” you still have to be fresh.
Sweaters and cardigans are top essential items for women and men during the fall and, no, I’m not talking about your grandparents’ sweaters!
Both items are great for keeping warm and layering. You can find both sweaters and cardigans that are pretty cool at places such as Urban Outfitters, PacSun and ASOS.
Scarves are another major essential for the fall. While I can’t personally pull ’em off, more power to the people who can.
If you plan on rocking them for the season, I recommend guys going for colors such as grays and blacks and maybe something that has some pop of color to it. Girls should shoot for colors such as yellows, reds or something bold such as western prints.
Another fall item that you absolutely NEED is hoodies. Fall weather is all about hoodies, and you can never go wrong with them. Plus, you can find them anywhere. They’re simple, they’re affordable, they’re great for layering and they work great for those days that you don’t really feel like styling on everyone.
By the way, guys, there’s a new style of Ts for layering called “tall tees.” A lot of guys like myself who are into the “streetwear look” are sporting them. They look dope layered with flannels, hoodies, side-zip crewnecks and sweatshirts.
Speaking of flannels, I’m definitely a flannel guy when the weather gets cooler. I know, I sound like a lumberjack or a grandpa, but don’t knock ’em till you try ’em! Flannels are on the coming up, and believe it or not, they are actually cool for girls to wear, too. Ladies, if you want to take risks this fall or you’re just looking for layering items, check out some flannels.
The next item every guy and girl should have to embrace the fall the weather is a lightweight, breathable jacket. Depending on style preferences, there’s tons of jackets out there that will look cool on you during the fall, like bomber jackets. Bombers are pretty much available at every major retail clothing and department store. Parkas are also cool. You can go for regular or fishtail parkas, which look absolutely dope for rainy days.
Biker jackets always look good on both genders, too. Not to mention, they also look bad ass! But the number one outerwear essential for both males and females is the infamous denim jacket. There’s not much to say; you just can’t go wrong at all with a denim jacket.
Now, on to denim. I personally feel like you can never have too many pair of jeans, and the go-to jean for autumn is a pair of dark wash jeans. Dark washes are versatile; you can dress them up or down, which is really cool. Medium and light washes for the transition into the season will do just fine, as well.
The last and most important clothing item on this list is sweatpants. They’re cool for days you feel like lounging around the dorm, house or making a quick run to the store. They’re also good for Netflix and chill too.
Lastly, it wouldn’t be a G.O.O.D. Fashion blog if I didn’t touch a bit on sneakers and footwear.
It’s not fall if boots aren’t involved. The wheat suede and black waterproof nu-buck colorway of the six inch Timberland boot are perfect for women and men. They’re both monochromatic colors, which are great for the season. And it’s a boot that you can wear during the winter.
Another boot that should definitely be a staple in every guy’s fall wardrobe is the Clarks Originals desert boot. They come in a ton of colors and prints including tan, brown, black and camo. Plus, Clarks look great with dark washes and black denim.
As you prepare to put your low-top sneakers away, be on the lookout for high tops, such as Chuck Taylor’s in seasonal colors, such as maroon and grey. Another sneaker that looks good for the season is the Vans Sk8-Hi. They are high-top canvas sneakers that are perfect for the chilly weather, and you don’t have to worry about your feet freezing with the concrete getting cold like you would with a low-top canvas shoe.
If you’re not into the sneaker choices I mentioned above, there’s always other sneaker options to pair with your fall wardrobe, such as a simple running shoe like the Nike Roshe or the Adidas Tubular. There’s also the option of classic Jordan silhouettes for the change in the season, such as the Retro 1’s, 3’s, 7’s and 11’s.
Get going on preparing for the arrival of the season, and take this last piece of advice: Don’t be as basic as a pumpkin spice latte for your fall fashion.
